This apprenticeship combines studying and gaining a qualification while developing your skills in a real working environment, to prepare you for a career as a beauty therapist.
You will gain evidence from your place of work, which will contribute towards the achievement of your apprenticeship.
This Apprenticeship programme will enable you to earn while you learn and gain valuable hands on experience within a beauty salon.
You will attend college one day per week, where you will do a combination of practical and theoretical work, as well as an hour of independent study. It is imperative that you can commit to attend all sessions to maximise your opportunities and achieve the course requirements.
You will need to organise clients over the age of 16 years and will be required to wear a uniform and purchase the correct kit for you to participate fully in all lessons.
You may study the following units:
- Behaviours and Values related to the beauty industry
- Health & Safety
- Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work and promote additional services and products to clients
- Fulfil salon reception duties
- Provide facial skincare
- Enhance the appearance of eyebrows and eyelashes
- Carry out waxing services
- Provide manicure services
- Provide pedicure services
- Provide make-up services
- Gel nails.

You must be employed and have the support from your employer to enrol onto this Apprenticeship programme, as you will be required to attend college one day per week.
You should hold grade 4/C in maths and English. If you only have a grade C in one subject, you will need to study to achieve a Level 2 Functional Skills.
You could choose to progress to a relevant foundation degree at New College Durham, or seek employment/self-employment within the industry.
