The programme combines real workplace learning with classroom-based theory, portfolio building and underpinning knowledge.
It is delivered one day a week at New College Durham with the remainder of the week spent in the workplace, giving you the direct clinical experience needed whilst collecting a portfolio of evidence to prove competence against the criteria of occupational standards.
This apprenticeship programme is designed for those looking to develop their knowledge and skills, and to pursue a career as a healthcare assistant in a clinical area of work.
You will work for a minimum of 30 hours per week, plus take part in training for approximately 1 day. The exact working and training hours will be dependent upon the needs of the employer.
You should have a good standard of education and must be employed within a clinical environment.
Your place of work must be able to support the apprenticeship programme in terms of allowing the assessment team access to the clinic for observation purposes.
You could progress to BSc (Hons) Podiatry at New College Durham.
You could progress to a job role as a Healthcare Assistant in GP practices.
