Level 3 Business Administrator Apprenticeship

Our worldwide network of embassies and consulates employs over 14,000 people in nearly 270 diplomatic offices. We work with international organisations such as the EU, NATO, the United Nations, the UN Security Council and the Commonwealth.
This 18-month apprenticeship involves working in the FCO’s Finance Directorate to provide key corporate support functions and services to ensure the efficient and effective running of the FCO and its growing global network of posts. Apprentices will work towards to a certificate in Business Administration equal to two A levels. It will consist of on-the-job learning at the FCO and structured apprenticeship training. You are likely to be based in Central Milton Keynes initially, before a permanent transfer to Hanslope Park currently planned during the course of 2020.
You’ll spend a minimum of 20% of your paid hours on off-the-job apprenticeship-related training and assignments covering topics such as effective communication and interpersonal skills in business, stakeholder management, and presentation skills. Throughout the programme, you’ll have ongoing support from your Apprenticeship Trainer and your FCO Line Manager. Mentoring and coaching is also available.
A2 officers provide professional office administration and support on transactions processing, projects, budgets, customer services functions, and internal and external communications. All roles have a customer focus whether involving FCO colleagues or dealing directly with the public. Your first placement will depend on business need and on your skills and experience.

- HR Services
- Corporate Accounting, Finance and Reporting
- Legalisation Office
- Operations - Global Transactions Processing Centre.
We are seeking candidates with excellent literacy, numeracy and IT skills, who are motivated to provide high-quality administrative services while gaining the skills and experience to become a business administration professional.
As a minimum, you’ll need five GCSEs (including English and Maths) at Grade 5/C or above, or equivalent. This apprenticeship is not open to with an undergraduate or higher degree qualification.
You must be a British Citizen at the time of application. You must also have been ordinarily resident in the UK for at least the previous three years by 31 December 2019.
Satisfactory Security Check clearance is a condition of employment.
