Previous workshops have been facilitied by leading representatives from Unilever, Savills, Merrill Lynch, Direct Line Group, Holiday Extras, Atos and PA Consulting.
Our LLB (Hons) Law with Business Management is more than just a law degree. Yes, it equips you with the knowledge and skills necessary to be a lawyer, but it does so in the corporate environment of an international FTSE 100 company.
You’ll learn from practicing lawyers, business leaders and academics through workshops, guest lectures, internships and company-based mentors, as well as the more traditional lectures and seminars. The aim throughout is to give you a proper understanding of what it is to be a lawyer, whether as a barrister/solicitor or in house counsel in a large commercial company, rather than just an understanding of the law.
We work with a wide range of professional bodies to make sure our degrees are aligned to their qualifications wherever possible. So, depending on what you study, you’ll gain exemptions from various professional business, management and finance examinations and have the opportunity to undertake professional qualifications.
WHAT YOU'LL STUDY
Level 4 / Year 1
Right from the beginning of your studies we'll immerse you in the worlds of commerce and law. The former will come in the form of the Principles of Business module, which seeks to introduce you to key business topics in the context of a real business organisation - including finance, marketing, HR, organisational behaviour and technology. At the same time, you will begin your legal studies, examining the English Legal System before progressing to look at Public Law in the form of criminal, constitutional and administrative law.
Level 5 / Year 2
During your second year the legal intensity of the course builds and two thirds of your modules will be devoted to law. In addition to getting the
opportunity to drill down deeper into criminal or constitutional and administrative law, you will learn how to navigate the pitfalls of English contract law and the hazards of the law of tort. You will also be introduced to company law – a must for all aspiring City lawyers and a bonus for any City professional.
You can then tailor the course to your interests and choose to explore any of the law and business electives available across the whole business management degree suite – from People Management and Leadership to Strategic Brand Planning.
Level 6 / Year 3
In your final year, you’ll explore the myriad of regulations and directives emanating from the European Union, as well as the Dickensian complexities of the English law of Chancery, as reflected in the law of property. A final foray into legal research in the form of a major legal project, plus a choice between intellectual property or employment law, completes your mandatory legal study. You can then choose from a range of advanced modules, in areas such as law, accounting and international business, to further tailor the course to your interests and career ambitions.
How will your work be assessed?
We use a range of methods, designed to reflect the kind of activities you may be asked to do in the workplace, either individually or as part of a team. For example, report writing, data analysis, preparing strategies and business cases and presentations. You'll also sit exams in some modules.
Please note: It is not possible to apply for an accelerated programme; on completion of level 4, our full-time students have the opportunity to request to accelerate to a two-year programme. The decision to allow this is based on the student's performance in their assessments in the programme so far and you will need to satisfy performance criteria in the first two terms to be considered for it.
What are the entry requirements?
Our typical UCAS tariff entry is 120 points (BBB at A level) or equivalent. However, we’re really looking for people with a passion for their subject so if you do not have the UCAS tariff points you need, or traditional entry qualifications, you can still apply through our assessment-based entry route. You’ll be invited to a Professional Workshop to see if we’re the right fit for you.
What are the fees?
Full time fees are £9,250. All students that attend and pass a Creative/Professional Workshop will be awarded a partial tuition fee waiver, up to the maximum fee loan available for the programme. The workshops are a great opportunity to meet other students and get to know Pearson Business School/Escape Studios and our fee waiver can significantly reduce your tuition fees.
