About the role: 

Balfour Beatty Rail is an international leader in the design, construction, maintenance, management & renewal of rail assets and systems. We are currently looking for suitable candidates to join our Engineering Apprentice scheme for in September 2018.

What you will be doing: 

The Apprenticeship scheme, which lasts for 4 years, is accredited by EAL (Excellence, Achievement & Learning). The first year will be ‘off the job’ at IPS International College, Rochester Kent where a combination of practical and theoretical work will take place to gain NVQ Level 2 in Engineering Maintenance (Electrical and Mechanical).

Years 2-4 will be based at our Ashford Kent Engineering workshops and placements in South of England to gain NVQ level 3 in Engineering Maintenance (Electrical and Mechanical).

On successful completion of the apprenticeship the likely role available would be an on track plant maintenance technician, based at one of our engineering depots.

Who we’re looking for:

  • 3 GCSE’s A-C or equivalent in Maths, English and a science based subject
  • A keen and demonstrable interest in practical mechanical and /or electrical engineering
    • An enthusiastic approach to work and willingness to learn
    • 3 GCSE’s A-C or equivalent in Maths, English and one or more science based subject
    • An ability to pass Network Rails Level One medical standard to permit working on the operational railway
    • A full UK driving license or willing to achieve this in the near future.

    As well as strong numeracy and well-developed team and People Skills, you have the passion and enthusiasm to keep the momentum going on a project. You will be able to set the pace as well as the standards for the team. You will also have the ability to describe what interests and motivates you to the construction industry.
