The Mechanical Engineering team develop and support the mechanical aspects of our products, throughout their life-cycle. They strive to meet the required timescales of each of our projects, whilst also keeping control of cost and how best to optimise performance.
Our Apprentices learn about all aspects of Mechanical Engineering in MBDA, through rotational placements, so that by the end of the 4 year programme they decide where in the function they chose to start the next phase in their career.
You'll see all aspects of Engineering from a mechanical perspective. Starting on more basic tasks, as you increase in confidence and your studies progress you'll get involved in more complex projects in an increasingly autonomous environment - but always with the support and guidance from world leading technical specialists in that area.
Through your placements you'll benefit from the breadth and depth of a diverse Mechanical function - from Theory and Design, to Analysis and Application - you'll get to experience some incredibly niche areas! All whilst working in our bespoke facilities. You'll be taking your learning at University and applying it directly to your work.
This role would suit someone with an interest in hands on Engineering and a love of problem solving and maths.
Our Mechanical Engineering degree apprenticeship is a 4 year course where you will study towards a fully funded Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. You will study for this qualification on a minimum of one day release per week, at the University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield.
During your first 2 years you'll benefit from a fixed set of placements, rotating departments to give you a good insight into the basics of Mechanical Engineering in MBDA.
Years 3 and 4 you'll get to pick the placements that you would like to do (from a defined list of options and based on availability), as well as have the option to do an 'external' placement in another function or with a supplier/external agency.
Typical placements include:
- Mechanical Design
- Mechanical Future Concepts
- Actuation Systems
- Mechanical Analysis
- Materials and Processes
- Environmental Engineering
Study on this programme will be a blend of virtual and face to face.
This role has specific qualification level and subject criteria - please make sure you carefully check your eligibility against this criteria as we cannot consider applications from anyone that does not meet the following requirements:
5 x GCSE qualifications at Grade 4 or higher, to include Maths, English and a Science, Technology or Engineering subject
In addition to:
120 UCAS points through A level qualifications to include Maths at minimum grade C, plus a Science, Technology or Engineering based subject OR an additional Maths qualification.
