As the UK’s leading generator of low carbon electricity, we’re on a journey. One that will help redefine the entire UK Energy Industry for generations to come. Being involved in that is surely the biggest and most exciting reason to join our Metering Apprenticeship scheme. But it’s certainly not the only one.
About the scheme
On this two-year Programme, you’ll divide your time between the classroom and the field to gain an unparalleled introduction to the industry. Supported by a talented mentor, you’ll be involved in a range of activities from practical and theory electrical tasks to develop your core skills, to visiting customers’ homes – earning the skills, experience and confidence you need to get ahead. After the two years are up, you’ll have an NVQ level 3 and City & Guilds Technical qualification under your belt and be fit to work as a Metering Engineer. You’ll also get the opportunity to broaden your horizons as you’ll be required to travel occasionally within the UK as part of the scheme. All kinds of possibilities will open up as your career with us unfolds, including helping customers to become more energy efficient in the future. And whichever path you choose to follow further down the line, you can be sure your time on the apprenticeship will stand you in good stead. Just ask some of our senior managers who started on the scheme.
To be considered, you must not already possess formal Electrical Qualifications. All we ask is that you have a full UK driving licence (with no more than three points), a minimum of 5 GCSE’s at C grade or above or equivalent (Maths and English required) and a high level of numeracy and grammar. Throughout your time with us, you’ll receive all the support necessary to develop your career, and plenty of interesting work to get involved in. But as well as that, we’ll also give you all the tools and equipment you need in the form of an approximate £14,000 basic salary in the first year, 3% annual bonus, final salary pension scheme and healthcare plan – not to mention covering your expenses too. Depending on which area of the UK you’re from, you’ll need to be within an hour’s drive of one of our training centres. Or, if you’re from the South West, you’ll be required to move into our all expenses paid accommodation near our Energy Field Services Training Centre in Bexleyheath where you’ll enjoy the independence you crave.
About EDF Energy
A wholly-owned subsidiary of the EDF Group, itself one of Europe's largest energy groups, EDF Energy is one of the UK’s largest energy companies and its largest producer of low-carbon electricity. What really sets us apart, however, is our fresh approach to the industry. Everything we do is underpinned by a clear customer focus and a drive towards a sustainable future. Because it’s these two factors, we believe, that will define the future of the entire UK energy industry.Application closed
