The Physiotherapy Project in Nepal offers volunteers the chance to gain valuable work experience in one of the poorest countries in the world. You will receive a fantastic insight into how local procedures work and learn about physiotherapy in practice in a developing country compared to back home.
The programme is based in the Nepalese capital of Kathmandu and also in Chitwan. There is a real shortage of physiotherapists in Nepal and so volunteers of all abilities are welcome to join this project.
Volunteers can choose to work in either a rehabilitation centre for disabled children or in a hospital treating patients with neglected conditions such as TB, polio and cerebral palsy. As a volunteer your role will be primarily observational, however if you prove yourself to be trustworthy you will be given various responsibilities to assist the staff with. To get the most out of your placement, you will need to show initiative and enthusiasm, as well as developing a good relationship with the medical staff.
