The Opportunity

Our Procurement Business Degree scheme is a four and a half year programme and a fantastic opportunity for you to join an organisation that has developed some of the leading Business Apprentices in the UK.

You will study towards a Business Studies degree at Bolton University on day release for a minimum of one day per week, which will be funded by MBDA. You willwork within our business on rotational placements within the Major EquipmentProcurement department for the remainder of the week. This way of studying allows you to earn an academic and nationally recognised qualification as well as gain hands on learning experience within a professional and friendly workplace. You will be working in an open plan working environment aimed at aiding your learning and development.

What you will be doing

Major Equipment Procurement, as a business function, is responsible for defining, managing and maintaining our international supply chain. Without the support of its large network of Suppliers, we would not have the capability to design, manufacture and support our world leading weapon systems.

We develop and manage successful long term relationships with each of our Suppliers to ensure we obtain capability, value, and on time delivery throughout the life of MBDA’s products.

You willcomplete a range of rotational placements during the apprenticeship. Some of these placements will be outside of MEP and will be within other process areas at the Bolton site. During your apprenticeship, you will also have the opportunity to work at our Stevenage site for one or two placements, both fully funded by MBDA. Some of these rotational placements include:

  • Project management

  • Industrial Engineering

  • Business and Performance

As well as a variety of placementsyou willhave the opportunity to undertake developmental training and support:

  • An induction event that allows you the opportunity to interact with all ECP new-starters, and integrate into the business

  • 2 x 1 week residential courses to develop skills, such as team working, business communication, presentation and project management skills.

  • 2 day career development workshop at the end of the scheme to assist you moving from an apprentice into the business.

  • A breadth of experience and support is available which includes a buddy system to welcome you into MBDA, access to the mentoring scheme and regular informal meetings with other Early Careers Programme (ECP) members and managers.

  • You will also get fantastic opportunities to bring your technical knowledge to schools as a STEM ambassador.

  • 5 days paid study days to prepare for exams per year

“Doing MBDA’s business apprenticeship allows me to gain hands on experience that I can apply to the theory I’m learning within my degree. I wouldn’t have been able to put what I was learning at university into practice, which was one of many reasons that the scheme appealed to me.” Izzy- Business apprentice
