With a significant order book and billions of pounds poured into research and development, we don’t think you’ll find a more exciting range of projects to tackle. Whether we’re developing gas turbines, creating manufacturing facilities or building power stations, sound project management ensures we deliver and meet our customers’ expectations – as well as our own. By combining theoretical learning with practical, on-the-job experience, our Project Management Degree Apprenticeship equips you with the skills you need to become a fully-fledged Project Controller. And unlike university, we’ll pay you to learn, while giving you all the support you need to achieve a bachelor’s degree in Project Management. You’ll also achieve a professional qualification recognised by the Association of Project Management (APM).
Over four years, you’ll be getting to know our business and developing practical knowledge of project management techniques, tools and methodologies via a series of mentored placements. These rotations will take you to different areas of the company: Civil and Defence Aerospace, Nuclear and Corporate HQ. Each placement will generally last six months each to give you a real understanding of the area you’re experiencing as well as the project you’re working on, as part of your tailored development plan.
What you’ll do
As a Project Management Apprentice, you’ll be responsible for supporting or leading a range of different project types by ensuring your projects meet customer and business expectations. These might include introducing new products or services, developing new facilities, or looking at the infrastructure for IT projects. You’ll develop professional experience using world-class tools and processes, learning from supportive professionals as you work towards your qualifications. The ability to plan with integrated teams, manage risk and use data analysis to control and manage your project will become second nature – you’ll be able to plan for every eventuality. Not only that, but you’ll also learn who to get involved in your projects and at what stage. And when you finish your apprenticeship? You’ll be ready to take on your first role as a Project Controller.
What you’ll get
- A competitive salary starting from £12,657 a year and increasing as you complete your training
- A competitive pension, and 33 days’ holiday per year (inclusive of Bank Holidays)
- Career support from day one
- A bachelor’s degree in Project Management plus a professional qualification recognised by the APM
What you’ll need
We look for fast learners who are highly motivated and hungry for a career in project management. You’ll be a real people person – someone with great communication and team working skills as well as solid leadership abilities. Drive, great attention to detail, team-building skills and a willingness to learn are all important. You should also have three A-Levels at grades A to C, one of which should be in a numerate subject such as Maths, Economics, or Physics.
