As a Communications Infrastructure Technician you will work with the RAF’s communications hardware such as radio masts, power cables, fibre optic cables and antennae. You might install data communications cables in a secure operations room or work up a radio mast to repair a fault with an antenna. As part of the job, you’ll need to be able to climb and have a good head for heights! The job can involve a lot of travel.
- Repair and recover communication equipment
- Investigate and fix faults with antenna systems, fibre optic links and radomes
- Assemble and install communications infrastructure like masts and fibre optics

Qualifications you need;
GCSE at Grade C (Grade 4 to 5 with effect from Aug 17) or SCE Standard at Grade 2/Scottish National 5 in English and Mathematics.
Other entry requirements;
You must be a UK citizen or holder of dual UK/other nationality
Whether or not you were born in the UK, you should have resided there for 5 years immediately preceding your application
RAF Communication Infrastructure Technicians will be enrolled onto an Intermediate Apprenticeship in Communications Technologies which includes a Level 2 certificate. You will also be offered the opportunity to undertake advanced fibre optic and structured cabling courses as well as high risk confined spaces courses. On successful completion of your qualifications you will embark on an exciting and varied career!
