As a Royal Air Force Weapons Technician you will be responsible for arming our aircraft with weapons. You will also make sure all the weapons management and release systems are in full working order. Most weapons technicians spend their first tour of duty on a flying squadron helping with ground handling tasks and preparing the aircraft for the next flight, you could go on to work with ejection seats and rocket launchers, bombs and missiles or to service small arms and automatic weapons. Some weapons technicians also volunteer to train in bomb disposal.

- Service and issue rifles, pistols, machine guns and heavier weapons like the mortars used by the RAF Regiment

Qualifications you need;
Grade C (Grade 4 to 5 with effect from Aug 17) or equivalent in English language, Mathematics or SCE Standard Grades at Grade 2/Scottish National 5 in English, Mathematics and an approved Science/Technology-based subject.
Those 15 years and 9 months can apply based on expected results with an earliest entry of 16 years of age.

You must be a UK citizen or holder of dual UK/other nationality
Whether or not you were born in the UK, you should have resided there for 5 years immediately preceding your application
RAF Weapons Technicians will be enrolled on an Advanced Apprenticeship in Aeronautical Engineering during specialist training. The Apprenticeship is achieved over a period of 3 years and takes place both at the Defence College of Aeronautical Engineering at RAF Cosford and through practical assessment in the workplace. The course is designed to give you a basic understanding of your role as an armament specialist and includes awareness of explosive safety requirements and the maintenance and repair skills of aircraft weapons systems, weapon launching systems and aircraft escape systems. On successful completion you will have achieved a Level 3 Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering and will embark on an exciting and varied career!
