Spirit Energy (formerly Centrica Energy)

Apprenticeship Scheme Get your career off to the perfect start with our Apprenticeship Scheme, offering comprehensive training, an opportunity to work with complex plant and machinery and ending in a HNC qualification.

Spirit Energy is one of Europe’s top independent oil & gas exploration and production companies and is one of the leading gas producers on the UK Continental Shelf with further operations in Norway and the Netherlands. It was formed in 2017 by a joint venture between Centrica’s Exploration and Production business and Bayerngas Norge. Our Morecambe Hub is a complex and challenging environment with offshore operations in the East Irish Sea – flying out of Blackpool heliport and onshore processing at the Barrow Terminals.

Our 4-year Apprentice Scheme will commence in September 2018 and will give successful applicants an exciting opportunity to combine further education at Furness College with on the job skills training at our Barrow Terminals from your 2nd year. You will continually be developing your technical and personal skills and upon successful completion of your apprenticeship and HNC, you will be in a strong position to apply for a potential permanent role within our growing operation onshore or offshore.

You will be working alongside our maintenance teams as either an Electrical, a Controls & Instrumentation or Mechanical Apprentice and your talents and your ambitions that will enable us to keep growing and keep innovating.

Controls & Instrumentation Technicians maintain and calibrate a wide range of electronic and pneumatic instrumentation equipment to within fine tolerances, ensuring plant critical process control and safety systems are performing correctly by monitoring gas flow, level, pressure and temperature.

Electrical Technicians operate and maintain high voltage electrical power generation and distribution systems providing light, heat and motion to numerous drives and systems. The equipment worked on ranges from over 25 years old to state of the art and most importantly ensures the safe start up, operation and shutdown of our plant.

Mechanical Technicians maintain the mechanical operational plant and equipment associated with gas production. They work on a wide range of equipment such as turbo machinery, pumps, valves, compressors, heat exchangers and vessels. They carry out routine maintenance, fault finding and repairs to ensure safe operation of plant equipment.

Our apprenticeship scheme is a self-driven programme that requires highly motivated individuals to manage their own development throughout the duration of the training on site and at college.

You should have a minimum GCSE (or equivalent) A to C in Maths, English & Science and be able to demonstrate a self-motivated approach.

Location: Barrow in Furness and ideally you should live in Cumbria or Lancashire.

Salary: Starting at £11,025 rising to £19,425 over the course of the 4-year fixed term contract, subject to annual performance reviews and completion of exams towards your HNC. We also offer a host of flexible benefits to suit your lifestyle. These include pension, share schemes, paid holiday and company discounts.

It’s important that we do the right thing and we will carry out financial, criminal record and reference checks before you start working with us.

Closing date for applications and online aptitude test will be 30th March 2018.
