Volunteers with no previous experience, who are looking to teach, will gain a lot of valuable hands-on experience working with the young and disadvantaged children from our Teaching in the Philippines project. You will find yourself coming into contact with conditions that you wouldn't normally experience in the developed world but will also get a chance to see some remote beaches and idyllic islands.
Our placements are located in Bogo City, Cebu and range from preschools, primary and secondary schools that mirror the American teaching system. This means that our volunteers will be working with children aged 6 – 17 years and class sizes can range anywhere from of 40 - 70 students.
Tourism is one of the largest employment areas in Cebu, making the ability to speak English key. Whilst you will be primarily teaching English, your other skills are seen as a great asset to the school and can be used during extracurricular activities. As a confident volunteer, you may want to take your own classes straight away, whilst others may need some time to settle in and thus choose to be teaching assistants first.
Imaginative lesson plans and fun interactive activities thought up by our volunteers make learning enjoyable for the children and result in a long-lasting impact on their lives.
