Telecommunications Engineering Apprentice

Role Description

We currently have an opportunity for a Telecommunications Apprentice on a 3 year training programme to work in the Communications, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (CISR) Team, working within Defence Systems Technology (DST), Bristol. DST is a business unit in the Marine & Technology Division of Babcock International Group.


The aim of the Apprenticeship scheme is to prepare you for an engineering post within the company. You will be required to complete an Apprenticeship which consists of a 90 credit BTEC level 3 Diploma and level 3 NVQ assignments in order to obtain the skills, knowledge and experience required to become an engineer. This will prepare you for a role within an engineering environment and ensures you are familiar with engineering processes and communication methods. This also allows you to become highly skilled and competent within the CISR area, developing you into an integral part of the team.

In addition, there will be further opportunity to become a fully trained operator.

Required Skills and Experience / Qualifications

  • 5 GCSE’s A - C grade, including Mathematics, English and a Science. Mathematics and Science should be at a ‘B’ grade or higher
  • 3 A levels (A2) at ‘C’ grade or above to include Mathematics or Physics:


  • National Diploma in Engineering
  • National Certificate in Engineering
  • Advanced Vocational Certificate of Education (VCE) in Engineering

Passion for Engineering

The primary location for this role is Crimmond, Aberdeenshire (with travel to support the business as required).


Successful candidates will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements and may be required to complete a medical assessment.

The role will be in an environment regulated by Trade Control legislation and involve working with controlled goods, technology and/or services. This may require you to meet enhanced security and regular screening checks.
