Applications are invited for 2 Planning Apprentice to be based in our Planning Offices in Manchester

You will be providing support within a team to the wider organisation whilst to gain and understanding of rail timetabling and capacity analysis.
You will be joining a team of professionals working together and innovative projects.
You will be supported with will be solutions to optimise rail capacity gain an understanding of the relationship between track access and rail maintenance planning.
Timetable planning using a recognised industry standard software.
Gaining and understanding and application of Timetable Planning Rules and local planning restrictions. Knowledge of rolling stock and rail operations
Developing good analytical skills
You’ll be employed by Northern from day one, and you’ll also be working towards gaining a Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard in Business Administration.
This will include workplace training and development, classroom knowledge development and assignments to complete alongside a detailed portfolio, so it’s very important that you are willing to complete all of your course work on time and meet deadlines, alongside working in the role.
We will be behind you each step of the way, making sure you have the right support to enable you to succeed.
The apprentice scheme will last for 15 months and you will have the opportunity to apply for any permanent roles with Northern that are available at the end of your apprenticeship.
WHAT ELSE WILL I LEARN?
As well as gaining this great practical experience in planning, you will learn key skills such as team work, working towards deadlines, and general office administration skills.
WHAT WILL I BE DOING?
You will be undertaking all the tasks and learning required as an apprentice in order to have the skills to become a competent in Train Planning at the end of the apprenticeship scheme.
You’ll be working with the teams who work behind the scenes to make sure that all of our trains can run at the right times, be in the right place and have the people they need on board to keep our customers moving.
WHAT SKILLS DO I NEED?
We’d love to hear from you if you are: ·
Great at problem solving, and enjoy the challenge of working through problems logically
Interested understanding how the railway works – this would be an advantage
Comfortable and competent working with numbers
Good level of general computer literacy;
Good written and verbal communications skills.
Excellent organisation and time-management
High attention to detail
Able to prioritise
Able to work on your own initiative.
Great at communicating with others both in writing and face to face
WHEN DO I START?
If you are selected to go through to the next stage, you’ll be invited to an interview day.
You’ll also take some assessments in Maths, English and ICT.
If you are selected to join Northern, you’ll join us in October 2020.
WHAT WILL I EARN?
£15,650 per annum
