Trainee Quality Inspector (Engineering/Gas/Pipelines) – National Grid - Ambergate, Derbyshire

Headline – Join National Grid’s Pipeline Maintenance Centre (PMC) as a Trainee Quality Inspector and you’ll learn and develop the skills to undertake emergency and planned specialist inspection activities on the national gas pipeline network.

Role Overview
During your role training, you’ll be mentored by our expert inspection team. You’ll contribute towards the secure and reliable operation of the UK gas network by supporting maintenance of both National Grid and third party assets in line with the Health and Safety at Work Act. You’ll collaborate with colleagues, public officials, site managers and the general public to organise and plan work, and make sure everyone is satisfied with the outcome.
You’ll have the opportunity to develop technical knowledge and skills in distribution and transmission operations gaining specialist experience of the energy sector. By joining us you will have access to outstanding training and get ahead in your career, taking you to the next level. You’ll come away with the ability to comply with health and safety procedures. Once you complete your role specific training you should be able to take on the more specialist role of Craftsperson and undertake more complex pipeline inspection activities.


Other Accountabilities
* Report to Pipeline Maintenance Centre Project / Operations Engineer
* Ensure work area is safe, clean and fit-for-purpose
* Carry out pipeline inspection duties as requested by PMC operational leads
* Practice pipeline inspection techniques and operations under direct supervision of qualified Pipelines Inspector(s)
* Compile a portfolio of evidence for British Gas Approved Scheme (BGAS) accreditation for Painting and Coating Inspector


Who we’re looking for
Someone with an appreciation or interest in science or engineering; aptitude for technical calculations, technical drawings or engineering report collation.
Extensive travel across the UK will be involved, which might include being away from home overnight. You’ll often be working outside in variable working conditions and some duties will involve significant physical activity. You will also be expected to attend all training sessions at our Training Academy at Eakring, Nottinghamshire and other external training relevant to the job.

What next…
If you’re interested in applying, ideally you should have: GCSE grade C or above in STEM subject or equivalent;
Any relevant qualifications such as NVQ/ONC, A-Levels in STEM Subject will be advantageous.
You must hold a full driving licence.
