Volkswagen group apprenticeships don’t just bring more manufacturer trained young technicians into the paint and body network; they help guarantee the future of the industry by passing vital skills on to a new generation.
The Technician programme will be taught over two years at the Volkswagen group apprenticeship programme centre in Milton Keynes.
When cars, vans, motorcycles and larger vehicles are damaged in accidents, they are taken to a body repair workshop. Some repairers will complete the process from start to finish and others will have specialised roles and work on one part of the repair process.
The MET programme will be taught over two years at the Volkswagen group apprenticeship programme centre in Milton Keynes.
Mechanical and electrical trim technicians (MET) are responsible for identifying damaged mechanical and electrical components on vehicles and removing and refitting before and after the vehicle is refinished. Duties may include:
Removing and fitting basic mechanical, electrical and trim components.
Removing and fitting non-structural body panels
Removing, renewing and refitting mechanical, electrical systems and assemblies and trim following accident damage.
Removing and reinstalling mechanical, electrical systems and assemblies and trim following accident damage.
Identifying the extent of damage
Accessing and removing damaged components
Installing new components
- Using welding and soldering equipment
On completion of the Advanced Apprenticeship you will receive the following qualifications:-
Advanced NVQ in Mechanical, electrical and trim
Advanced Technical Certificate
- Intermediate Key Skills in Communication and Application of Number
Training will be delivered on a block release basis at the Volkswagen group training academy in Milton Keynes.
You must have a genuine interest working in the automotive sector and be committed to the two year apprenticeship programme. You must be willing to learn in a practical environment.
Desired Qualifications : A minimum of three GCSE’s grades A-C (New Grades 4 – 9) in English, Maths and Science or the equivalent.
Future Prospects : Possibility of full time career/further training
Things to consider : The National Minimum Wage (NMW) for Apprentices is £3.50 per hour as of April 2017. This applies to 16-18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the Apprentice National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies.
The Wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent training.
