By joining our Volleyball in Bolivia programme, Projects Abroad offers you the chance to coach children aged 4 – 19 years volleyball in one of the most stunningly beautiful countries in the world.
Bolivia is one of the poorest countries in South America and many sports are simply not accessible to local children. Volleyball however is becoming increasingly popular as it can be played on any type of court and requires only a ball and a length of rope to mark where a net would be.
Volunteers on this project work at Club Olympic in the city of Cochabamba, a club which boasts six beach volleyball courts, six indoor courts, a small track and a gymnasium. As a volunteer, you will help raise the interest in volleyball among students as well as assisting with the planning and running of training sessions.
I had such a great time in Bolivia that we returned to the country twice more in the next three months we had set aside for travelling, and I honestly felt like I was leaving a new home when we finally departed. Cochabamba is a fantastic city with wonderful people and a culture that cannot fail but impress all. - Chris Turner
Volunteers will usually work alongside another coach, but those with a good knowledge of volleyball could find themselves taking their own group. We usually recommend that volunteers on this project speak some basic Spanish, but translators are available for those that don’t.
Working hours are Monday - Friday from 3pm to 7pm and at the weekends there are tournaments, championships, and other activities that volunteers are welcome to attend.
