Malawi - "The Warm Heart of Africa" - is a beautiful country bordering Tanzania, Mozambique and Zambia. Mount Mulanje and Lake Malawi attract tourists, however, slow economic growth means that almost half the population live below the poverty line - so volunteers provide an invaluable service.
Lattitude provides placements in teaching, community development work and healthcare.
- Volunteer teaching opportunities are at local primary and secondary schools. You will be able to develop your own lessons within the national curriculum and lead your own classes and all whilst learning valuable transferable skills yourself. Volunteers are also encouraged to get involved in the local sports teams, craft clubs or providing extra English classes for community leaders.
- Our community development role is a unique opportunity for a volunteer to gain experience in community-level international development. Volunteers have worked on programmes that support women's empowerment, HIV/AIDs education programmes and youth work.
- Placements also include working in a health centre, assisting with general activities such as looking after the pharmacy, weighing babies, feeding programmes and patient administration - perfect for someone wanting to go into the medical profession.
