More about us

At GCHQ, Britainʼs signals intelligence agency, we gather and analyse data from digital and telecommunications sources, and ensure that our country’s people, businesses and infrastructures are secured against hackers and other threats. Think terrorism, espionage and organised crime. Itʼs complex and varied work, so it takes people from all kinds of backgrounds, with a wide range of skills.

That’s why we offer a wide range of roles – specialist, technical, analysts, as well as more general roles (HR, project management, finance, leadership…). To do our job – which involves solving some of the most complex technology problems the world faces - we need all talents and we need people who dare to think differently. In return, along with tailored training and development options, we’re committed to providing a healthy work/life balance that enables employees to perform to the best of their ability.

No other job offers the chance to be able to apply technology expertise in such a unique environment, against such a varied set of challenges and with such interesting colleagues! Join us and you can expect new challenges every day.

At our organisation we’re proud of our inclusive and supportive working environment that’s designed to encourage open minds and attitudes.

Look out for our Apprenticeships, Languages and Maths Summer placements opportunities in the Autumn. We even offer bursaries for those of you who are studying a STEM subject at Uni. At GCHQ, you wonʼt just be discovering innovative ways of using advanced technologies. Youʼll be taking responsibilities, developing new skills and ultimately, protecting your country. Itʼs the kind of work you simply wonʼt find anywhere else.

We recruit all year round and applications must be submitted via our careers website. Visit www.gchq-careers.co.uk for more information and to apply.

How do we select?

We recruit British citizens of all backgrounds, but the nature of our work means that we have strict nationality, residency and security requirements.

Our rigorous, but fair, vetting process will look into your character, family history and personal circumstances. It’s a through process that can take up to nine months and you must be over 18 to go through it.

We welcome applications from everyone – regardless of age, experience, cultural background or sexual orientation. However, you do need to be a British citizen and have lived in the UK for the majority of the last ten years. We’re also a Disability Confident employer, dedicated to providing guaranteed interviews to all disabled candidates who meet our minimum criteria.
