Is the Open University a viable route to an IT career?

I just got my A level results after finishing year 13, a Distinction in BTEC IT, a C in English Lang and a disappointing E in Geography. Months ago I applied for a data analytics position in EY and got the job, I start on the 30th and the contract is until May. My results are not what I was hoping for, but a quick look around at access courses and L4/ L5 courses makes me quite hopeful that I can get qualified to degree level regardless. My question is, is the OU's Computing and IT course a reliable route into the IT field? As with pretty much every IT hopeful I'm looking at software development, but I get the impression that you can't get there without a solid academic track record. Would I be able to get a job in software development with the OU's Computing and IT course? Thanks
